Mohammed Balousha, a Palestinian journalist and administrative and financial manager of the local media channel Palestine Today in Gaza, was killed on 17 October 2023 in an Israeli airstrike on the al-Saftawi neighborhood in northern Gaza, according to Anadolu Agency, The Guardian, Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS), and Arabic media reports. He was killed when his family home/apartment was bombed during a series of raids targeting the area.
The strike formed part of what became known as the Balousha family massacre, in which more than 11 members of the Balousha family were killed after Israeli airstrikes hit a residential house in the Saftawi neighborhood.
Journalists held funeral prayers for Balousha in the courtyard of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, affirming their commitment to continuing press coverage and documenting the occupation’s crimes.
Salama Maarouf, head of the government media office, said: “Today, the Palestinian journalistic family bids farewell to our martyr colleague Mohammed Balousha, who was martyred as a result of a new massacre committed by the occupation against our defenseless Palestinian people by targeting the homes of safe citizens over their heads, leaving behind a long list of martyrs consisting of women, children and elderly people in a massacre against humanity.”
